Newtown, Sydney: Danny Lim spotted out after arrest – MashaherNet

Activist Danny Lim has been spotted out in Sydney after an arrest which left him hospitalised in November.

The iconic Sydneysider was spotted at Newtown Station spruiking an event he is part of for Human Rights Day.

Mr Lim has been the centre of public attention after vision of him being slammed to the ground during the arrest went viral, with many viewers condemning the actions of NSW Police while they were placing him into custody.

The footage shows Mr Lim’s head slamming to the ground, before the two officers place him in handcuffs.

The 78-year-old was left with a fractured skull and brain bleed from the arrest and was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital where he remained for several days.

Despite being out and about after his trip to hospital, Mr Lim still requires the aid of two walking sticks to stand and walk.

Those who spotted Mr Lim at the station said in addition to the two walking sticks, he was not standing freely and was leaning against the wall to support himself.

NSW Police are conducting an internal investigation into the incident, with the police watchdog monitoring the arrest.

“The Commission will continue to closely monitor the progress of the police investigation of police’s contact with Mr Lim,” a Law Enforcement Conduct Commissioner said in a statement.

“This includes considering the force NSW Police Force officers used as part of Mr Lim’s arrest.

“If the Commission has any concerns about the NSW Police Force’s conduct of the investigation, the Commission has the power to step-in and take over that investigation itself.”

Though he held a sign around his neck in his classic style when spotted out and about at Newtown, it was not one of the sandwich boards he has become famous for and which have gotten him into trouble in the past – for the use of the term “CVNT”.

The sign featured information about his event for Human Rights Day, to be held on Saturday at Campberdown Park.

Sydney band Stickyfingers and Eddie Mabo’s grandson will also make an appearance.
